Olympus announces a raft of new digital cameras for Photokina 2006
Olympus have launched a huge range of new cameras for the forthcoming Photokina show in September 2006.
The new Olympus cameras cover the range from beginner to advanced. See below for details.
Olympus Stylus 1000 Digital Camera
The Olympus Stylus 1000 offers a fairly rare combination of features including weatherproofing and a 10 megapixel sensor. The other features are fairly standard and include a high resolution 230k 2.5 inch LCD, 3 times optical zoom, VGA movies, 28.5 mb of built in memory, XD card slot, lithium battery offering 280 shots and a silver metallic body. The Stylus 1000 also had digital image stabilization with an ISO high of 6400. The camera will be in the shops next month for $400. |

Olympus Stylus 730 Digital Camera
The Olympus Stylus 730 is a tiny metal bodied weather proof camera with Olympus's first 3 inch LCD display for easy viewing. The 730 is only .83 of an inch thick and has a 38 - 114 (35 equiv) zoom, digital image stabilization, ISO boost to 3200, red eye reduction, VGA movies with sound, 22mb of built-in memory and a XD card slot. The Stylus will in the shops in September 2006 for $400.

Olympus Stylus 740 & 750 Digital Cameras
Both the Stylus 740 and the Stylus 750 cameras offer almost identical features including a 7.1 megapixel sensor, a useful five times optical zoom with a range of 36 - 180 mm (35mm equiv), a small metallic body, weatherproofing, a large 2.5 inch LCD display, 640 x 480 VGA movies with a lower frame rate at 15 fps, 17 mb of built in memory, XD card compatibility and lithium batteries for 200 shots.
The Olympus Stylus 740 offers digital image stabilization while the Stylus 750 is the first Olympus camera to offer CCD shift image stabilization. The 740 is priced at $350 with the 750 coming in at $400. Both cameras will be available in September 2006.

Olympus Stylus FE-200 Digital Camera
The FE series is part of Olympus' budget line up but even so, the Olympus FE-200 offers a five times optical zoom starting from a 28mm wide angle to a better than average 140 mm (35mm equiv). Like many other cameras listed here, the FE-200 also has a 2.5 inch LCD with a resolution of 150k, digital image stabilization, a 6 megapixel sensor, 24 mb of built in memory, XD card compatibility, VGA movies with sound and the camera will be available next month for $250. |

Olympus FE-190 Digital Camera
The Olympus FE-190 is ultra slim at only .7 of an inch thick and comes with a 6 megapixel sensor, digital image stabilization, a 3 times optical zoom, a slightly lower resolution 2.5 inch LCD at 115k, 640 x 480 movies at 30 fps, 22 mb of built in memory and an XD card slot. The FE-190 starts shipping next month and will cost $200. |

Olympus FE-170 and FE-180 Digital Cameras
The Olympus FE-170 and Olympus FE-180 are the base models and share many features including a 6 megapixel CCD, a 38 - 114 mm (35 equiv) zoom, 2.5 inch LCD, digital image stabilization, 10 mb built in memory, XD card compatibility, 320 x 240 movies at 15 frames per second and both cameras use two AA batteries.
The differences between the two cameras are minor with the FE-180 having a lower resolution LCD, VGA movies at 30 fps with sound, 22 mb of built in memory and the price for the FE-180 will be $180 while the FE-170 will cost $150. Both digital cameras will become available in September 2006.
