Nikon launches a range of new digital cameras for Photokina 2006.

Nikon have launched five new digital cameras in the run up to Photokina 2006. The new range of cameras covers the spectrum of digital users from advanced to entry models. See below for details.

Nikon Coolpix S7c & S9 Digital Cameras

These are two of Nikons' most advanced compacts and are part of their 'S' series of cameras.

The
Coolpix S7c has a large bright 3 inch LCD for easy viewing and reviewing of photos taken. It comes with a 7.1 megapixel CCD sensor and a 3x standard zoom with a 35mm equivalent of 35 - 105 mm. One of the most interesting features is the VR optical image stabilization system which will allow the camera to take sharp photographs in low light conditions without flash. This is particularly useful at the telephoto end where the aperture is smaller. Other features include built in 802.11b/g wireless connectivity for transferring files to a PC, ISO 1600 sensitivity, VGA movies at 30 fps and SD card compatibility. It will arrive in September and sell for £350.

The
Coolpix S9 comes with a 6.1 megapixel CCD sensor, a standard 3x zoom equivalent to 38 - 114 mm, a 2.5 inch LCD, 24mb of memory built in and unfortunately, the S9 does not come with built in wi-fi or optical image stabilization. It will be priced at $250.

Nikon Coolpix S10 Digital Camera

Key features of the Coolpix S10 include Nikon's VR optical image stabilization system which will boost the low light capability of the rotating 38 - 380 mm (35mm equiv) zoom lens. VR is also essential for producing sharp results at the telephoto end of the zoom range in bright to fair conditions.

Other features include a 6 megapixel sensor, 640 x 480 VGA movies at 30 frames per second, SD card compatibility, lithium batteries for 300 plus shots on a single charge and a high resolution 230k 2.5 inch LCD. The S10 will be available in September for $400.

The Coolpix L5 is part of Nikon's life series and offers a useful 38 - 190 mm (35 equiv) zoom lens with the added bonus of VR optical image stabilization. Other features include a 7.2 megapixel sensor, 640 x 480 VGA movies, 8mb built in memory, SD memory card compatibility, AA or NIMH rechargeable batteries for 250 shots and the camera will in the shops in September for $299.
