Canon announce 3 new Elph cameras: SD900, SD800 IS and SD40.

Canon have announced 3 new cameras in their ever popular Elph series. Canon Elph cameras are renowned for being stylish with sleek contours, compact size and high performance. The Powershot SD900 offers 10 megapixels while the SD800 and SD40 both have 7.1 megapixels. All three cameras come with Canon's new DIGIC III processing engine which also appears on the recently released Canon Powershot G7. DIGIC III offers improved performance when it comes to a faster shutter response, start up times and autofocusing speeds.

The Canon Powershot SD900 digital ELPH has an attractive titanium body which gives it strength coupled with low weight. The camera comes with a standard 3x zoom, a high resolution 230k 2.5 inch LCD screen, face detection AF/AE and is compatible with both SD and SDHC memory cards upto 4 gb. The SD900 also offers an XGA movie mode at 15 fps for up to 3 minutes while VGA movies can be recorded at 30 fps upto a limit of 4 gb.

The SD900 will be priced at $499 on its release.

The Canon Powershot SD800 IS digital ELPH is an interesting camera which comes with a wide angle lens equivalent to 28 - 105 mm with the added bonus of optical image stabilization. This is a welcome addition to the ELPH series as true wide angle lenses are still a rarity among digital cameras. Like the SD900, the SD800 also has the DIGIC III processor, a 2.5 inch LCD at 205k, VGA movie mode, SD and SDHC card compatibility and USB2 support.

The SD800 will be priced at $399 on its release.

Just make sure you walk out of the shop with a camera and not a tin of paint when shopping. The SD40 offers the DIGIC III processor, a smaller 1.8 inch LCD, a 2.4x optical lens and VGA movies at 30 fps.

The SD40 will be priced at $349 on its release.
