Travel Photography: Late afternoon sun on Mirissa Beach, Sri Lanka. Shot of the Month - May 2008
This travel photograph of the stunningly beautiful Mirissa Beach on the southern part of Sri Lanka was taken on a Panasonic DMC-LX1 camera in 2006. The Panasonic LX1 has a high quality Leica DC Vario-Elmarit zoom lens equivalent to 28mm - 112mm when set to its original 16:9 format CCD. The widescreen CCD coupled with the wide angle lens gives a semi-panaromic view equivalent to widescreen televisions and gives a refreshingingly natural view as compared to the standard 3:2 or 4:3 ratios of most digital cameras or digital SLR cameras. Mirissa beach was badly damaged by the Tsunami of December 2004 resulting in the deaths of many people. Due to a lack of resources and funding, most of the damaged areas were still in a very poor state two years after the Tsunami. Sri Lanka is a great travel photography destination with its world class beaches, ancient culture, historic hillside towns such as Kandy and the people who are curious but friendly.
