Digital imaging editing software applications such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Photoshop Lightroom, Corel Painter, Corel Paintshop Pro and Phanfare provide powerful imaging tools for photographers from the beginner to the professional.

Mastering Adobe Photoshop to professional level would involve a long period of training but fortunately many of the tools can be used by amateur photographers and designers to clean up or improve their photographs as well as creating new works of art. For photographers wishing to develop their photoshop or image editing skills, there is a wealth of training tutorials and tips on the internet. In addition CD or DVD based training by companies such as VTC or Total Training are also good value.

There is no limit to what Photoshop can achieve if used with a little skill and creativity. It is important to emphasize that when dealing with large graphics & imaging products such as Photoshop, a powerful computer with a fast processor and lots of memory will be required.

Basic imaging or editing tasks can be mastered in a relatively short period of time such as removing dust marks, correcting color imbalances, cloning parts of the picture, removing unwanted objects or people, removing red eye, converting color to black & white or mono, improving brightness & contrast, cropping & converting files to different formats such as from raw or tiff to jpeg.

Adobe Photoshop is the market leader in digital imaging and editing with a huge number of followers in the professional photography, design and advertising markets as well as home users. The newest version of the software is Adobe Photoshop CS5 and Adobe now offer various versions to suit all levels and each price sector as well as a free download in the form of the Photoshop Album Starter Edition. Adobe includes the following imaging software as part of its Photoshop range:
